I bought the Universal Plus Mixer about a year ago, and after some initial "getting used to" (the design), have grown to absolutely LOVE it for mixing up bread dough. I also put together waffles, mix cake batter, and make batches of cookies with ease. For those who have jumped on the cake ball bandwagon, this machine is great for mixing the crumbled cake with frosting to make the cake ball "dough." I use this machine more than I even expected (I am eagerly expanding my kitchen repertoire), and have loved it.

HOWEVER... my latest interest is in baking cakes and making frostings from scratch. Unfortunately, to make a basic buttercream frosting, there is a heat step in which you dissolve sugar on the stove and then pour it into your mixer to be blended with other ingredients. Seeing as I have the polypropylene bowl (which comes standard), I was concerned about dumping HOT ingredients into the bowl. I contacted the supplier and received a message back that confirmed that Bosch says not to put anything that exceeds the boiling point of water (212F) into this bowl. So I thought this might justify a purchase of their stainless steel bowl, but when I looked at the stainless bowl's specifications, the center spindle (to which the beaters/wisks attach in the center of the bowl) is made of the poly propylene. REALLY?

Now I'm a little aggravated. After all the research and accolades for this mixer (which are certainly true), finding out that I can't make basic buttercream frosting without killing my arm doing it manually or dealing with a hand-held mixer is a definite con. Should I look into the Kitchen Aid after all?

This machine is almost spectacularly bad. The design of the hook for making bread, etc., is awful. The beaters--all of them--fit awkwardly because you cannot see what you're doing to drop the attachments in place. It is difficult to put the bowl into its bottom shaft where it must be placed to operate--again because you cannot see what you're doing. As for capacity, this machine works overtime to handle only a few pounds of bread dough--mine just died trying to turn about 4 kg. of croissant dough (the machine is only a few months old).

It is hard to clean, especially where the bowl meets the base of the machine--fluids constantly collect in there and unless you use cotton swabs you'll soon have rust and mold in that nice 1/4"x1/2" hole.

The bowl has a sort of double lid--one about 2" deep and then a 2nd one that fits across the middle of the machine. The lids connect in opposition to each other, and again, are awkward to set in place, and to use.

The mixing levels (M/1/2/3/4 where M and 4 are the same speed) are too high/fast at the low end (1), and the range is too close together; that is, there's not much change from 1 to 4. And the M (mix) and 4 speed are the same, so you're only getting 4 speeds, not 5.

I am just stunned at the high rating this machine has received. Its poor ability to blend, the difficulty of using attachments, its low pound capacity (max is 2 kg. or 5 lbs.) for breads/croissants/danish, the guck factor where fluids can collect in the middle of the machine where the bowl attaches, and its overall awkwardness make this machine an absolute zero.

So, I killed two kitchen-aids (one a pro model) with the amount of baking I do. When the pro model croaked I knew I had to ante up for something stronger. After reading many rave reviews, I bought the Bosch Universal Plus and have had it for about 2.5 yrs now. After all the hype I was surprised to find that I don't love it. There are several design flaws that are a constant source of irritation, as follows:
1. Multiple pieces to put together to use the dang thing. The rotation attachment from below, screw the bowl in just right (I usually have to spin for several rotations), the beater on top and then the two part lid. If you don't put on the lid dough flies around. If you want to use cookie or whipping attachment there are an additional three pieces to put together for either option. With the Kitchen-aid you stuck on the beater and off you went.
2. The low setting is not slow enough. They advertised the new model with super slow speed, which was one reason I bought it. I don't know what the other one was like but this is not slow for bread.
3. Cleaning is a hassle. The central cylinder and bowl have a lot of surface area covered with dough, but worst of all is the hollow part of the central cylinder that is on the underneath of the bowl. It can get truly gross and requires a bottle brush and lots of soaking and elbow grease to scrub it. There are visible screws under there and stuff gets kind of caked onto it and hard to clean. I am referring to the replacement stainless bowl. I haven't used the original plastic bowl so don't know if the same problem exists.
4. With smaller batches (1-2 loaves) dough is not scraped up off the bottom and sides. If the dough is not in the central dough ball, you have to stop and scrape it up. With other mixer styles the dough ball has contact with the sides and continues the mixing process.
5. Takes up a lot of room on the counter.

On the positive side, it is definitely strong and can definitely knead the number of loaves it says, including heavy dough. The whipping attachment works beautifully as do the cookie paddles. There are additional blender and food processor attachments. If you decide to get this definitely shop around as there is a wide range of prices.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas to continue to fill out his Scanpan collection. He loves it. This particular grill pan has deeper, more defined grooves for a great grilling effect. It's as close to grilling without a grill that you can probably get. Like all Scanpan products, this is sturdy, heavy, cooks evenly, and cleans easily. Great purchase! I know we'll still be using this 20 years from now.

Nothing compares to the Scanpan nonstick surface (I have their wok and it's truly fabulous).

My model of this grillpan has lower sides, and it looks like it has a slightly larger grilling surface. When I got it it was sold as an 11" 'Classic' model, and it looks more like the griddle you see below here, but with the grill elevations. The shorter sides allow you to use skewers flat on the grill surface, and also to remove fragile foods easier with a spatula than navigating around the higher sides. However, it seems like they've replaced my model with this one. If you want to search for the other, you may find it worth it.

I've tended to be a Le Creuset snob of sorts, and have a circular one of theirs which, while not specifically sold as nonstick, held out that promise with it's black coating. Everything always stuck to it, and there was always much non-scrubbable residue, likely from the spray I used. Le Creuset may now have a more au currant REAL nonstick surface, I don't know--but even if they did, I'd choose this one for its ease of handling and fine cooking job.

Cleanup with this Scanpan is magical. It only requires hot water and a brush to make all the burnt stuff disappear easily--then hot soapy water and voila! It's like new. I don't recommend using nonstick sprays. First, you don't need them with this pan, and second, they accumulate residue which burns on and becomes very hard to scrub off.

If you live near a Trader Joe's, get their marinated lamb tips and skewer them up and grill 'em on this, preheated ONLY at medium high heat. Doesn't get any easier or more delicious.

The table came pretty quickly, but one of the pieces was drilled wrong. The counter-sink holes were on the wrong side. I emailed the company, and they were very helpful in sending out a new replacement part. The main complaint I have is that it took over a week and a half for them to get the new item shipping. The part came in, I was able to get the table built, and overall is a nice little table. I love the design, and besides the shipping delay which is the only reason this didn't get 5 stars, it is a great little table.

Great bed. I needed one to replace my old Sealy in my bedroom. This one was perfect. Great firm, but not to firm mattress. Perfect for sleeping. I was very comfortable and got a good night's rest. Great design, and the box spring that comes with the mattress is fantastic also. In all, a great bed set. Love it.

So, recently slit up with my GF and moved out. She kept the mattress which was the best mattress that I had ever slept on. I loved that mattress and shed a tear or two when I realized I didn't know when I was going to get one of that caliber. Because as we know most great mattresses are expensive and the one I left behind was definately that. Starting over a again after 5 years of togetherness with someone can get expensive. I did what I had to and went to my local Big Lot for the "$159 Big Lot Mattress Special", lol. Needless to say over the last couple of months there have been many uncofortable nights.

I purchased this mattress because it was memory foam and at the time had an all 5 star rating. When it was arrived it was packaged well but I was a little worried because in its packaging it resembled a air mattress. Once I took the packaging and rolled it out I was a bit relieved. Now, I opened this mattress in my living room...BIG MISTAKE!!! This mattress is heavy!! Much heavier than your traditional mattress and I guess this is because it is foam. I struggled really hard to get this out of the living room and into my bedroom breaking a few nails along the way.

My new mattress is all set up and after 4 hours it had fully recovered for packaging and now looks like a mattress. It is soft yet firm and very very comfortable. This mattress is comparable to those $1500+ mattresses with a price tag of only a fraction of the cost. I am extremely satisfied with my new purchase and look forward to many nights of blissful uninterupted sleep.

Surprising comfortable mattress. I had a king size high quality latex memory foam mattress that I loved. Spent over $3000 on it as thought it would be my last mattress BUT ..we broke up and decided it was just too big alone. So thought I would tried this cheap alternative. Happy surprise as is fairly comparable but it is still new so cannot speak to longer term durability (which other has). Did not like that at this thinness it is so low on bed frame and and can tell it really needs the support of a foundation. So just bought the foundation (costs more!) and hoping the combination will be just right. Can always add a memory foam topper if feel want more softness. But this is fairly soft on top, IE can feel there is just a few inches of memory foam there but again it feels good. PS I have over half of the discs in my back and neck damaged and this is okay with those needs,so far. Hey for the price it is worth a try!

Bought to rock newborn. Must be short & skinny to fit in it. Little back support for lower back and head are hunches your neck forward. Makes your neck sore if you sit for more than 30 minutes. Don't waste money unless you're little & only plan on using it for 15 minutes at a time.

You get what you pay for. After receiving this chair in a timely manner, I quickly realized that was the last of the positives. In attempting to assemble the footstool, I found that the template for the screws must have been for a different model chair. The chair itself was not matching up bolt holes as well. I called the company, and got a thick foreign accent speaking from a room of many other speakers in the background. I finally understood the person to say that the person who deals with my problem wasn't in and would call me. They never did. So rather than pay $50+ shipping and the trouble required to re-crate and return the chair, new holes were drilled in the footstool to match the frame. The chair frame was forced into submission and continues to be stiff. I wrote a complaining review and immediately got a call from 'the person who deals with my problems.' He gave me every personal sob story in the book, offered to pay the return shipping, and begged me to retract the review. By this time I felt that there was no trust left, and regretfully, I am still struggling with the chair. I have paid much more for similar chairs, and I will again. Definitely in this case, I got the bottom of the barrel.

Hi Everybody! Just Got Our Chair Today (27 June 2011). My Mother And I Were A Little Disappointed With The Delivery, I Ordered The Chair 16 June And We Didn't Get It Until Today. But Now Let's Get To The Good Part(s)! First, We Love This Chair! It Has A Nice Color And Feel To It. In Other Words, It's Very Attractive (Reminds Me of Suede). My Mother And I Got This Chair, For Her, She's About 5'7"/5'8" And Weighs 222 Lbs. So Far, She Hasn't Fallen On The Floor Which I Take To Be A Very Good Sign!

Second, I Put This Chair Together Within The Hour of The Steve Wilkos Show (lol). I Used A Black & Decker Mini-drill To Do The Chair So It Probably Went Faster Than Someone Using A Regular Phillips Screwdriver. So Far My Mother Loves This Chair! *I* Love This Chair! Mother Says It's Elegant, Comfortable And Beautiful!

What Pleases Me So Much About This Chair Is That It Does Everything! It's A Recliner, So It Reclines. It's A Glider So It Glides. It's A Rocker So It Rocks And If You Want To Sleep In It, You Could Sleep Like A Baby! It's Also Warm For People Like My Mother, With Arthritis. I Don't Think Mother Is Going To Be Giving Her Recliner & Ottoman or Remote Control Up Anytime Soon!

Ha Ha, My Son Is Coming For His Bi-weekly Visit This Weekend, So I'm Sure Once He Discovers It, Mother May Not Get Her Chair Back! Well, To Summarize My Review: I Would Definitely Recommend This Chair! I Don't Think I'll Be Able To Come Back And Make Another Review In A Few Weeks When The Chair Is Broken In, So I Can Only Comment On The Chair TODAY.

So Far, It's Excellent! I Definitely Give This Chair An Enormous Thumbs-Up! It's A Five-Star Chair! So I Leave On The Note That I Say "I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS CHAIR!!!" Have I Also Mentioned How Much We Love This Chair? (lol) :)

We have had our mattress for about a year now. Ours came in 2 pieces (memory foam and foundation foam).

We disassembled our old innerspring mattress to re-use the top and side quilting that was in very good shape. This gave us a nice finished look (in fact, it looked like nothing had changed!). If you decide to do this, be careful removing the large staples. I did manage to cut myself, but not badly. Wear gloves. I used a utility knife and needle-nosed pliers. It will take a few hours that we think was worth it.

To get rid of possible dust mites we vacuumed thoroughly and set it out on the deck over night in freezing temps to kill any left. This was my wife's fantastic idea (if you live in the right climate). This just may become an annual event!

We immediately loved the mattress (we let it air out first as suggested by others). Re-using the old cover provided some isolation to prevent the sweating that many complain about with memory foam. After 9 months or so we noticed some center sagging.

While a bit disappointed, I realize the price I paid may reflect in the quality of materials used, so I decided to simply modify the mattress to compensate for the sag... We lifted the shell (old quilted cover), then lifted the memory foam. Then I placed 2 pieces of thin foam cut to the size of our torso (saved from the old mattress) in the proper position and reassembled. It worked great!

I hope this helps! I would recommend this to anyone. Just don't expect a $2000 or $3000 mattress for a mere few hundred. Work with it!

We order the 3.3 Cloud9 Queen 3 Inch Visco Memory Foam Mattress Pad with the cover for protection. We absolutely love it. We're sleeping so much better. We had purchased a memory foam mattress at the store and paid a lot more for it than this one and it wasn't near the quality this one is. It also didn't hold up very well. This one is very comfortable. My wife has very bad arthritis and she actually got a full night's sleep on it. Which hasn't happened in a very long time. The foam warms up and your body sinks into and it's just like it says sleeping on a cloud. It also fits our queen mattress perfectly and it's a pillow top mattress. The cover fits nicely around our mattress and the top is a nice quality but the netting that fits around the mattress is a little flimsy so you might want to invest in a better one. That all being said it does have a smell so its best to let it air out but the smell goes away pretty quickly. And the twenty year warranty is a added bonus. All and all we are very happy with our purchase and would recommend it. Another great deal. Thank you. M.Foster
