This was a very good product and we have recommended it to friends as an excellent, reasonably priced solution for co-sleeping with a new baby. We used it until the baby was about three months old. We expected him to co-sleep longer but that is how it worked out. Fits well in a small bedroom, and you wouldn't need anything larger than this with a newborn thru 3 month old.
We never bothered to secure it to the bed, that didn't seem necessary unless you were going to lean on it while picking up the baby, which seemed really unlikely. It never shifted unexpectedly for us. I suppose if you had an older baby who could theoretically get out you would need to secure it, but at that point you would need to worry about the sides being too short, so basically a non-issue.
We also never traveled with it, it just stayed in our bedroom. But it folds up the same way a pack and play does.
Would definitely recommend two fitted sheets, we had to change it more than once at 3am due to a diaper leak.
Also for what it's worth, the baby liked looking at the mesh sides.

This is a great product and I am thankful for the additional sleep that it has afforded me by not having to get up and out of bed. It seems to be well made and will last through multiple babies. However, you have to be careful when laundering the sheet which is the reason I gave it a four star review. If it shrinks there is no way that you will get it back on the mattress. I keep a sheet saver or pad on it all the time to keep it clean to avoid washing it.
