After 10 years my Rowenta toaster died. I searched the Amazon website for a toaster but was concerned by all the negative reviews about uneven toasting. Then I found the Breville listed and the majority of the reviews were positive. There were a few negative reviews about uneven toasting, but I figured they were defective toasters. There were also a couple of reviews were the toaster stopped working after a year of usage. The warrenty period is only one year so those people were out of luck. But since most reviews were positive I purchased the toaster from Hammacher Schlemmer were there is a life time warranty. The price was equal to Amazon's price. The only difference was that Hammacher Schlemmer was charging a $16.95 shipping charge. I searched the internet and found couponcabin.com where there was a promo code for free shipping. So far my toaster is working perfectly. It toasts both sides evenly and I love the buttons for Lift and Look and A bit More for 30 seconds of extra time. I haven;t used the Bagel or Defrost buttons yet but I'm sure they will work fine. So far I completely satisfied. This cadillac of toasters was a significant purchase for one like me whose day must start with perfect toast. This promised to be THE toaster, but unfortunately it went dead four days after it arrived. All the lights flash and nothing happens. I got on the Breville website, and found a whole collection of help requests for the same issue. There is nothing in the manual and the website is full of complaints exactly like mine. I am hoping Amazon will allow me to return it without the packaging, which just went out the door last night! Be warned people! What a frustrating way to flush $129 down the pottie.

I haven't purchased a toaster for 10 or 15 years and was surprised by the high tech features available. I had planned to buy it from Amazon but found a great one day sale on another site. This toaster has all the features you will ever need, and toasts evenly and as fast as my old Cuisinart. The quality and feel of this toaster are excellent....a beautiful design die cast from brushed metal. It should last for years, so well worth the price.

The Breville 2 Slice Smart Toaster has an internal smart chip that lowers bread into the toasting slots with a single touch and also regulates the toasting time. On the "a bit more" setting bread is automatically lowered for additional toasting time. The auto lift and look feature automatically raises the bread carriage during toasting without canceling or resetting the cycle. This enables you to view, and if necessary, cancel the browning cycle at any time. The LED panel illuminates according to the selected setting on the variable browning control. The display acts as a toasting progress indicator, counting down how long is left in the toasting cycle. The toaster beeps when the cycle is complete. Made of brushed die-cast metal the exterior wipes clean with a soft cloth. The heating element is 900 watts. Two wide slots accommodate waffles, bagels or toast.
